DEACTIVATION CALL WAITING ------------------------- The following is a notice that Pacific Bell has sent out to its CALL WAITING call waiting customers. Dear Customer: Pacific Bell is happy yo announce that on December 14, 1985, you will recieve an enhancement to your Call Waiting feature. This new feature is called CANCEL CALL WAITING. You might think of it as a "Do Not Disturb" sign for your telephone. You already know how useful Call Waiting is. But, have you ever been on an important call and have a les important call inturupt you? You will be able to activate Cancel Call Waiting before placing that important call. After you hang up, or redial, your Call Waiting feature will be automatically reactivated. Cancel Call Waiting is a feature especially usefil to computer users who send or recieve data over the telephone. Call Waiting "beeps" can interfere with the accuracy of transmission but Cancel Call Waiting will keep the line "beep-Free." Activating your Cancel Call Waiting feature is easy: get a dial tone, enter the access code (on Touch Tone phones enter * 70, on Rotary phones dial 1170), wait for the second dial tone and make your call. Call Waiting will be reactivated when you hang up or make another call. Cancel Call Waiting must normally be activated before you make your call. However, if you have the Three-Way Calling feature, you may activate Cancel Call Waiting access code and then switch back to the original call. We hope you enjoy this new feature. You will have it automatically on December 14, 1985. It is an enhancement to your existing Call Waiting feature so there is no additional charge for Cancel Call Waiting. Sincerely, PACIFIC BELL Notice in paragraph 3 that they said nothing about the replacing switch boxes that will no longer allow data transmission on 'normal' phone lines.
